I am a Forest Hills mom of a 21 month old baby boy. As worried as I was to send him to a preschool at 20 months seeing as he was very attached to me, in less than 3 short weeks I saw so many positive changes in him!! His attention span improved, his vocabulary started to grow and he began to want to do so many more things independently like feed himself using utensils. But perhaps our biggest turning point for me happened on his 5th day there, instead of tears he gave me a hug and reached for the teacher to pick him up and waved ‘bye bye’ to me. In the morning as soon as I get him out of a stroller he runs to his classroom and to me that’s the most important indicator that he’s in the right environment. After one month of him being on a part time schedule I feel confident about transitioning him to a full time schedule.
The teachers are amazing and attentive and are so very patient! For my own peace of mind I spend the first few mornings in the office with the school’s director who really is the heart beat of this school and is so knowledgeable and helpful, observing my kid on a video camera and I love how teachers get on the kid’s level to engage them and know when to give a child extra attention and when to give them a bit of space.
The school has been open for only 3 short months so everything is brand new and bright and clean. We got there at just the right time, because as people begin to discover this place spots are starting to fill up fast. I should mention that the school takes kids ages 2 to 5 years old but upon evaluation and observation they can make an exception and take a child as young as 20 months if the child shows signs that he or she is ready and would thrive in such an environment. Not to mention we have a fantastic community of parents there and I am so happy to recommend this place to other parents in our community!
The previous director was very caring and wasn’t interested in the drama that landed on her but tried to find the best way to handle it for the benefit of the children. You want to talk about not being able to register your child in May? Let’s talk about the utter PANIC the current parents were in knowing she was going to be gone for 3 weeks with no one with experience holding down the fort. Most of us were looking into making alternate arrangements! It wasn’t because she didn’t want you there (but I’m sure that is what you were told.)
And think about this – how would this be in her best interest to see something she was helping to build fail?
If you want to truth (not the truth people want to sell you on, but the ACTUAL truth) speak to some of the existing parents. Ask on FB in the Forest Hills Parents group. They will tell you only their own experiences.
Now don’t get me wrong, the new director seems very nice and comes with years of quality experience. But posting falsehoods about the previous director only makes the previous posts look like a desperate attempt to circumvent the truth.
I understand that businesses sometimes falter – I get it. The owners and daycare leadership should make an effort to impact positive change – don’t try to steal a positive image for yourselves – EARN IT. Don’t do it on the back of an ex-employee you are disparaging. To parents that have kids currently in school that know exactly what happened, it makes leadership at the school out to look like liars and con artists. Do it right – let it be on merit.
We miss it dearly. My daughter has more than enough academic exposure with the introduction of writing, letter recognition and enough playtime and circletime in her curiculum. We were very satisfied with our experience and humbled by the new staff of teachers and directors.
Ms jasmine and ms Denise has been amazing and my daughter loves the attention she received. She used to bring home atleast 3 craft projects at home . And loves finishing her homework ??. Would recommend highly this school for anyone looking to get their kids enrolled in 3s program.
They also have afterschool for kids in PreK in other schools.
