If you are a group of ten or so staying in Nelson do not go past the Hardy Street School house. For a two day stay for five couples before heaing off to the Able Tasman track it was absolutely ideal. Beatifully appointed and decorated, all ensuite bathroom bedrooms and lots of communal space inside and out. Full kitchen facilities x 2. Great location, walk anywhere in town. Interesting history displayed. Complementary welcoming wine and fruit baskets a lovely touch. Our hosts were excellent communicators and very receptive to our needs. The cost for our group was no more than we would have paid for an average motel and far better in every way. I would give six start if I could as this was better than places I have given five stars to in the past.

The school house is a beautiful historic building renovated to the standard of a 5 stat hotel but without the boring blandness. Located near the centre of Nelson within walking distance of all the sttractions. It is set up for cycle groups with bike areas and stands with high quality laundry facilities and special touches like a wine fridge. There is an internal courtyard that is a pleasure to relax in. Our group of 11 stayed 2 nights before and after a cycle trip and found it ideal.
Booked this place last minute when I arrived in Nelson. I was so impressed with the quality of this property in the heart of Nelson that I extended my stay to 5 nights. The interior is at a very high standard and there is a lovely courtyard where I enjoyed my breakfast. Many great restaurants are just a short walk away. I was especially impressed to store my mountain bike inside and enjoyed being close to so many mountain biking areas (Codgers, Wairoa Gorge, Cable Bay, etc).
Wow what an amazing restoration, super warm and gorgeous fittings. Very suitable for large groups but I would be happy to share with others, rooms onsuites are lovely. Internal court yard, spacious lounge, open plan kitchen and brilliant bike storage inside securce area with power for charging ebikes. Laundry with dryer. History of building preserved sensitively
