Heathbrook is a fantastic place, with a really strong community feel to it. The school focuses really hard on giving the kids opportunities in music, art, sport and learning outside, and has an amazing nature garden where all the pupils spend time doing forest school. However, importantly, it also gets good results in English and Maths and gives the children a really good grounding for their learning. The curriculum is interpreted really creatively and the pupils are challenged and encouraged to achieve their best. If you’re considering sending your child here, go and take a look, it is a really lovely school.
My son attends Heathbrook (he’s now in Year 3) and he loves it. His learning has progressed very well in the time he has been there. The atmosphere around the school is very convivial – children from across all years play together in the park after school – I have found that the elder kids not only know those younger than them by name, but also show respect to, and support them. I think this says a lot about the kind of school Heathbrook is. The headmaster is very open to parent input and makes sure the building is a welcoming place. The school also has a very active PTA. I recommend it highly.
We could not be happier with the start that Heathbrook has given to our son. He started in Reception this year, and under the leadership of the current Head, Ben Roberts, the school is really thriving. An amazing find; a school that nurtures the holistic development of every individual child as its core priority, no matter what their starting point. Just been recognised within the Top 100 Performing and Improving Primary Schools 2016 in the whole country which is very impressive and in our experience thoroughly deserved!
My son has finished reception at the school and has had a great first year- in particular he has enjoyed the outdoor space and the nature garden; and has had opportunities to bring his joy of nature into the classroom. The school is friendly and open to parental involvement along with staff who are accessible to parents.
Anyone who is looking to send their child to a school where teachers know your children as individuals, there is a strong sense of community and a body of parents who will be your friends both inside and outside the grounds, should definitely go and take a look at Heathbrook. After two children, and eleven years, we are very sad to be saying goodbye.
Both my children felt valued by the other children and staff (teaching and non-teaching), and were encouraged to ‘be the best that they can be’ while they were there.
It is a place where differences are celebrated – children from many backgrounds both cultural and economic forge firm friendships that continue long after moving onto secondary school.
Heathbrook is a safe haven where you can be yourself, whether academic, musical, sporty, arty or just like being in nature in the Wildlife Garden.
My daughter is about to enter Year Ten in secondary school and now volunteers at Heathbrook once a week, my Year Seven son is already talking about when he can go back and do the same.
