if you are looking for middle school options for your child I suggest somewhere other than heaton. I started my 6th grade year in 2013 and ended my 8th grade year in 2016. In those 3 years I have never felt more violated, disrespected, and scared to go to school everyday. For one, the bathroom policy is beyond ridiculous. You cant go to the bathroom for the first and last 10 minutes of class even if its an emergency. Believe me I have had girl problem emergencies and the teachers still wouldnt let me go to the bathroom and I hardly ever asked to go because of how scared I was to ask. One teacher made us write long essays on why we went to the bathroom 2 times in a week. My parents are strict and I was the most terrified of getting in trouble. I had a bladder infection secretly without my parents knowing because I would hold it in for 7 hours of the day. I was 12 years old. They treated us like were so crazy and wild that were too out of control to use the bathroom. For some students that was the case but for the majority it wasnt and even then those rules are too extreme. And dont even get me started on Mrs cardinal. Shes a full grown woman and walks through the halls to look at her students in disgust. Its happened to me and I did not feel welcome in that school once she became principal. There were some amazing teachers that I loved but the majority of them didnt make me feel welcome at all. They were rude for no reason and made us all feel bad about ourselves by treating us like we were so wild and out of control. Treating students like theyre in a cage is only going to make them act out and grow up with major self esteem issues. High school was surprisingly more easier than that place even though Mrs cardinal emphasized on how harsh high school was gonna be even though Ive had way better support academically and emotionally in my 4 years of high school. I am concerned for the students that are attending heaton and I hope the staff there really realize the impact they put on students. Teachers, councilors, principals and vice principals are supposed to lift up kids to see their true potential, not bring them down and treat them like they were in prison. I dont ever exaggerate and write bad reviews for no reason or to stir up trouble. I want students who are attending and who will attend in the future to not go through what I did and hope they see how smart and capable they are.
