If it was possible for me to continue to rate this school without giving 1 star, I wouldn’t have given that 1. Highland Mill was the worst school choice that I could’ve made for my son. He attended Pre K and Kindergarten there. My son absolutely didn’t learn anything in his two years there. Everything that he learned I taught him at home. For God’s sake he wasn’t even taught how to write his name. I wish I would’ve took him out of Highland Mill after his first year. I spoke to his teacher with my concerns his Pre K year (Vicki High) and she would tell me not to worry about it because my son was a young 4 year old and she’s sure things would change. I’ve never heard of a school that doesn’t send any type of school work home so that the parents would know exactly what their child is doing in the classroom on a weekly basis. His teacher only sends out a newsletter for the month??. I’m paying close to $300 a month with tutoring services to help my child, which is ridiculous. My son has came home on many occasions telling us that he had questions regarding his schoolwork at school and ASKED for help and was not assisted in the classroom. This will be my sons last year at this school!! If your child is capable of teaching themselves or you have intentions on doing it yourself then Highland Mill would be a great choice for you.
I had the wrong impression at the very beginning of this school and recant my original statement. HMM is a wonderful school. The principal seems very hands on with her students. When I was upset that I did not get to walk my son to school on his first day she visited him and emailed me a picture with him showing me that he had a good first day. Even with a few hiccups as he adjusted to Montessori they still worked with us to help with his adjustment. I am thoroughly pleased with my decision to send my son to this school.
