I have been teaching at this school for last 4 years in several different capacities. It is a very diverse, large NYC high school with several Small Learning Communities (SLC’s) from which to choose: PreMed, Public Service and Law, Global Citizens, Theatre, Teachers of Tomorrow, Health Careers, Business and Technology, and Media, Arts and Music. Several programs are screened and only take highly qualified students, while other programs are open to all who apply (though you have to audition to get into the Theatre Institute). Consequently, there is huge disparity within our population. We have straight A students right next to kids who wander the halls all day avoiding academic work, and every kind of student in between. There are 23 different languages spoken in the building and the vibe is mostly friendly and upbeat. No school is perfect but Hillcrest does a great job of helping kids who want to learn and grow.
Im a junior and I love this school so much. Being here has taught me so many life experiences and my friends will be life long partners. The teachers here are qualified and are passionate about what they do and encourage students to thrive and seek out help. I feel very satisfied with the amount of extracurriculars bettering me to get into colleges. The people here are extremely friendly and nice and you will make friends immediately. If I were a parent I would send my child here in a heartbeat.
I attend this school I’m a junior and it’s a good school not great because there are some problems within the school like over crowding and some rude people. Overall if you wanna become a nurse or anything in the medical field this is a great school for it. The school offers many programs and different SLC (small learning community) of all kind like pre-med, theater, and health Science and many more.
