A Montessori education is different. The children don’t sit in their desks all day and listen to their lessons. They are given the freedom to decide what they want to learn throughout the day, often working with materials that allow them to explore concepts that interest them at their own pace.

Montessori of Winter Garden Charter School is a public (no tuition) school that has been absolutely wonderful for my kids. They have been going there since Kindergarten. Our oldest started in Kindergarten when the school first opened. They have absolutely thrived.

This school may not be ideal for everyone. Parents are expected to volunteer 20 hours per school year. (On the other hand, homework is kept to a minimum.) Montessori students must learn how to be self-motivated and pursue their educational interests independently. (Most children love this and learn more as a result, especially if they start doing it from an early age.) Montessori teachers must trust the Montessori method and their students and facilitate self-directed learning, actively guiding and encouraging each student as they make their own work choices. This school has amazing teachers!

We have two children who attend MWGCS as a 3rd and 1st grader! We have had a phenomenal 4 years being a part of this community and our thrilled about the future and direction as they keep growing. My kids have thrived in this environment that allows for independence, freedom within limits, and respect for their natural psychological, physical, and social development. The self-directed learning and Montessori philosophy has been life giving to our children and family. We are grateful to have this school, teachers, and staff in our community. Learning and being cared for in this way has given me confidence that they both will be well prepared as they mature in our world that needs problem solvers, out of the box thinkers, and self motivated individuals. Because of this school, I feel that our future is bright!
My daughter has recently started attending MWGCS and we could not be happier with the welcoming experience she has had and the professionalism we have seen from the teachers and staff. Her classmates really have shown her the “grace and courtesy” that the Montessori method teaches. I am also so happy to see how the school combines the Montessori method with the state standards to ensure the children remain (at least) on the same academic level of their traditional public school peers while also learning the life lessons that made us look into Montessori to begin with. We are also so excited about the new campus and growing with this school!
