This school has really shown me that students are not safe in school. My daughter was bullied while under their supervision and everyone on there knowing about the incidents…. It all exploded when my daughter was attacked in the restroom. Even after complaining and reporting the abuse they kept the attackers in school and in her class. If it wasn’t for me calling and going everyday to complain that it wasn’t fair how my daughter didn’t want to attend class because she didn’t feel safe…the principal, staff and teachers wouldn’t of done nothing. I had to call police the school district and go to school almost everyday just to make sure they didn’t forget about what was going on and I kept getting the same answer…. We can’t tell you what we are doing with the students….if you want we can move your daughter to another class…blah blah blah.., nothing I wanted to hear. Until finally they gave in because of me not because they cared about my daughters safety but because of me. They watched over her and removed the students from class they didn’t tell me this; but my daughter did. This school gives too too many chances to bullies! I’m not going to remove my daughter from her friends so I had to fight just to make her feel safe again. So far they’ve been more vigilant and more protective it’s been a couple of months now and any complain my daughter has they listen to her and assure her they’ll handle it. I feel better knowing my daughter is being heard. Overall I feel this school still needs a strong punishment for bullies. LESS CHANCES MORE AUCTIONS!
I went to this school from kindergarten to forth grade. When I enrolled the school had a 5 star, buttt when I left it had a 2 star. One very incredible thing about this school is that they teach Spanish to their students because 40% of the school is Spanish speaking only. They teach spanish in a very fun and educational way! To this day I can still pick out certain words when I hear someone speaking Spanish. Also, The teachers are VERY welcoming and nice. Although fights do tend to break out a lot, students are pretty nice and work well with each other.Now.. about the education… my end of the year test scores at Irwin were barley average. But, the year after I moved into a new school my test scores jumped up 500 points and I was high above average (along with most of the students in my school). As you can see Irwin academy does tend to lack when education their students. Irwin academy also provides MANY fun school activities for their students. I remember always having pizza parties, pick nicks at the park, history days, and many amazing school plays. Overall I think this school would be wonderful to send your child too if you’re looking for something fun and educational.
This is a good school so far as I’ve only been there for a year (6th), some teachers are a bit struck but most are more calm, band/rockband has great opportunities, even though the teacher doesn’t teach very much about hot to play, the students know a lot so they can help with that, the lunch there is hands down not all the best but there are a bit of good stuff, it is a little ghetto but it’s not that bad, there are a few fights here and there but not really major ones, throughout the year I’ve been there, there was about 6 for the whole year, if you get Mrs. Ochieng, she does not assign homework and instead you get projects, and the other class with Mrs. Parm, she is nice, can get on you if your not doing what you need to be doing, all and all this school is good I would say 4 stars because there is room for improving, but would recommend going
