Overall, this school is a really good place to send your child!! First i’m gonna start my telling you how things run/how they (principal & teachers) explained it (this school) to me. Also, i’m currently in the eighth grade here and it’s been a really cool experience!

Typical Day:
•In the morning you must wait outside until 7:50 when they open the front doors (please keep in mind, they DON’T actually open the doors at this time but that’s how it was explained to me)

•After the doors open you go right to your homeroom class, say the pledge of allegiance and wait for the bell to ring. (THERE’S NO LOCKERS or LOCKER ROOMS)

•Then you travel to your first period class, then second, and so on.

•Since my academy is St. John’s I attend lunch during the 7th period. (The school is separated into academies)

•There are 8 period that make up the entire school day.

Academics:
•Academically, the teachers that I currently have which are Mr. Girgis, Ms. Williams, Ms. Duncombe, Ms. Martinelli, and Mr. Bierfelt for my core classes are AMAZING TEACHERS!!

•Mr. Girgis is a Math teacher at this school and he’s an excellent teacher, nothing i’ve seen before! He’s devoted to making the kids excellent mathematicians!

•Ms. Williams is also a great teacher, Ms. Williams is the Science teacher at I.S. 10 she just wants her work done which is understandable but the kids always think that she’s a very bad teacher, but in my eyes she’s just preparing us for high school and giving us more structure!

•Ms. Duncombe is the ELA (English Language Arts) teacher here at this school. She’s an excellent teacher! She’s also giving us preparation for our high school years! She’s a really funny and cool teacher… Definitely wish I had her for three years.

•Ms. Martinelli is one of our AIS teachers here at the school. Basically AIS provides us with practice for the state exams, I tend to understand why the kids never want to come to this class, but it’ll be very beneficial for us.

•Mr. Bierfelt is one of the Social Studies here at this school and he takes the real world and connects it with our social studies lessons! (not much to say about him) But he’s also another great teacher!

Clubs/Extracurricular Activities

•This school doesn’t hold an extremely huge amount of kids (approximately 850 students) but they have a few clubs which is Dance, Chorus, Volleyball, Basketball, etc. and though there’s a limited amount of clubs it’s a great way to make a bunch of new friends with the same interests as you!

I think I mostly covered everything but I definitely recommend this school!

What Improvements I Think This School Needs

•Lockers??
•Locker Rooms??
•I also think kids should merge with other kids instead of stay with their initial class.
•Uniform should be optional.
•The school should be wayy bigger with new furniture!

This school is amazing but there is one teacher who I am pretty sure didn’t even attend college and that is Ms.Hernandez, this teacher is a spanish teacher at this school and she doesn’t know how to teach at all. Her lessons have no connection with spanish and considering that it is a spanish class, this should be a sign that Ms.Hernandez is a horrible teacher. Besides this, her attempt to use high vocabulary is embarrassing. She doesn’t even teach spanish, she taught me and every other class the same bullshit for 3 years. All we learned about was spanish explorers and the culture of spanish-speaking countries, not the language but rather the history and culture. To top it off, she teaches the honors and enrichment classes, and I can assure you, the students are intellectually greater than Ms.Hernandez, actually ANY student at this school is smarter than Ms.Hernandez. She also gets mad when a student corrects her, students including me have argued with her because what she teaches us is beyond incorrect. Ms.Hernandez is an awful teacher who should be fired ASAP. Anyone can learn more spanish from a free trial on Rosetta Stone than her stupid class. But besides Ms.hernandez, Is10q is great.
