This school is AMAZING. Honestly, can’t even believe how good it is. They have a low ratio of kids to playgrounds. Most of the teachers are incredible. With a great principal and deputies. They have extra staff/teachers such as aids, student teachers, an art and environmental teacher. Everyone loves the groundskeeper. The reception and librarian staff are great too. The classes are really nice and modern with colourful sound dampening walls. The senior kids have their own mini school across the road too, (with another playground and field) which I think helps with getting ready for intermediate.
We’ve had 3 kids attend Island Bay primary, and I couldn’t write a more positive review of the environment, teachers and principal. Deborah is an intelligent and earnest leader and fosters an incredibly inclusive, positive and encouraging environment for kids to thrive. The teachers are amazing, and go out of their way to support each child in their development and growth. Our kids have taken away a solid educational foundation, as well as a social framework that has set them for success in their future.
An amazing school. Dedicated teachers who cater to the needs of a diverse group of students and make learning exciting. The principal does a brilliant job of building a strong and supportive school community. They get the basics right and they are constantly innovating to make the school and learning environment the best it can be for the kids who attend. Highly recommend.
Two of my kids went through IBS and I think it’s amazing. I volunteered for the school camp a couple of times, and I think that’s where it shines through the most. The teachers prepared dossiers on the kids on my group to help me get to know them, were super communicative and genuinely seemed to be having a blast (despite having the tough job of getting the kids to sleep). The staff at Island Bay love their jobs – it shows!
This is a great school. Fully inclusive and both my children loved their time here. All the teachers go out of their way to make each child feel special and Deborah Fenton is one of the most approachable principals, you will ever come across.
