Firstly, I would like to thank the school counselor at the time. My parents were poor, so KISD helped me ensure I had supplies and clothing. I am very grateful for that; however, the teachers did not enjoy my company.
I believe her name was Mrs. Bollom or Bollum. I had got out of my seat to assist my classmate Joel with some encyclopedias. Mrs. Bollom did not like students getting out of their desks without being told to, so to teach me a lesson she had tied my wrist to the desk. We had a fire drill that day and despite her telling me all I needed to do was pull the string…it still needed to be cut from my wrist.
The second teacher was Mrs. Mendoza iirc. She was down the hall from Bollom. My memory is fuzzy, but she didn’t like me either it felt like. At some point, she grew irate with me and gave me back to Mrs. Bollom who just had me sit quietly at a desk while she did a book report with the other classmates.
The other teacher was Mrs. Pugh. I don’t remember the specifics, but I just remember she wasn’t very nice.
I had a history of being picked on and being bullied in that school which led to multiple self-esteem issues. Counsels and psychiatrists were talking with me at the time, but really I was just a quiet weird kid who finished his work ahead of time and got bored. I didnt see anything wrong with occupying my time since I was done.
I ended up getting transferred to McRoberts where I had ZERO issues with my teachers. Mrs. Champion from there absolutely loved me and would use me to help with the class when I was done. The teachers were nice and I actually made friends. I was weird, but others liked me for it.
Not so with this school. If not for the counselor, Id rate the school lower. I realize this is 20something years later, but hopefully this school has changed for the better.
