I wish Stephen Halsey JHS 157, had more than 9th grade so my daughter could finish high school there. The Principal Mr. Suraci is the best. He cares a lot about his students. Bullying at school has 0 tolerance or it’s practically inexsistant. He enforces academic policies by giving his students many after school programs that are being funded mainly through the active participation of the Parents Association headed by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zevon. My daughter’s experience has been wonderful at this school since all teachers are so commited to their students. They help them in any possible way they can to succeed. In my opinion this school should be a good example for all schools in the U.S.A. If other schools were like Halsey, there wouldn’t be any problems in any school. Halsey is definitely under-rated. It should be considered number 1 in the district.
Okay look, this is my love and hate relationship with halsey. I was a freshmen on april of 2017, 8th grade and ESL. The ESL class(851) is stupidly horrible, the teachers cuss, disrespectful and undisciplined students, and also not friendly. It’s not only me, i saw a kid who is also new and he doesn’t speak english, he was bullied ruthless and teachers doesn’t care. Until i got transferred into another class which is not ESL and wow, the kids there are nice(807), so are the teachers. They care. The only thing that bothers me is that the kids here are not well disciplined as well as in asia which is far better. Thank you for your attention.
Im glad to hear its better today. When I was there in 1971-1973, it was a war zone. I was tracked into great classes, with small class sizes and awesome teachers. But home room and changing classes made life a challenge. People would run up and knock you down while you were walking down the hall. The rest of the school was a war zone. In my cousins class someone assaulted a teacher. The doors to the outside where chained shut. Guards patrolled the only exit. I was relieved when my dad retired to Arizona, so high school had much less drama.
