My son attended Shelton for only one year in 4th grade. We moved to another state, so unfortunately he was unable to attend more than one year; however, that single year at Shelton proved to be a pivotal one for my son. Prior to attending he was academically a year and half below his grade level, but worst of all he was completely discouraged and would often say he was “doomed” while attending 3rd grade at a private school in Dallas. Shelton completely changed my son into being very self-confident and self assured! He now has a “can do” spirit with respect to academics and all aspects of life. Fast forward and he is in his second year of college majoring in Aerospace Engineering. He graduated from high school with honors and was accepted into all of the universities to which he applied including the #1 school in the nation for Aerospace Engineering. I shudder to think how different my son would be if he had not attended Shelton to set him on a path to success. I am deeply grateful to Shelton, the administration, and the teachers!!
After graduating from this school almost a year ago I and other previous students have reflected on the issues that plague this school and keep it from being competitive with other private schools in Dallas. In this reflection, Ive come to the conclusion that this administration, is incapable of making any decision other than the one which is in their best interest. This creates an obvious issue that adds to the reason little progress is done in promoting this schools reputation and the nurturing of students education. In addition, I believe this is also the main reason the school seems to never fix its underlying issues with underperforming teachers who are neither a fit for the school nor students. This also highlights the issue of how little education is provided by this school. I believe part of the issue with Sheltons high school curriculum, stems from the many affluent familys who attend here whos only interest is getting their student a diploma the easiest way possible.
