Killian Oaks Academy has opened the door for my son to excel both academically and socially. Because of their individualized learning model, each student is given the tools they each need to thrive. Socially, it’s a small community and the kids interact with other students- no matter the grade level. Because my son feels comfortable at school, it’s allowed for him to blossom socially with kids of all grade levels. The staff and teachers at the school nurture the children and give them the love they not only need, but deserve. I see this on a daily basis. I am so grateful to Ms. Ricon, Dr. Ricon and all the teachers that have taught my son. It’s because of them that he has been able to come out of his shell. He is confident academically, and socially he is finally comfortable.
The kids are given the attention they need to be the best version of themselves. I am so thankful that my son has finally found the right school that can meet his needs. Killian Oaks is a safe space for children with learning differences to receive the attention they need while feeling valued and loved. They truly set up your childs path to success. Ms. Ricon, the principal, is passionate about what she does and genuinely has each of the childrens best interest at heart. If she doesnt think she can help your child, she will let you know. And to me that shows how dedicated she is to helping all the children under her care. Because like at any educational institution, not every school is suited for every child.
My son is finishing his second year at Killian Oaks Academy and I cant imagine anywhere else Id rather him be.
I, unlike Bob, have been a student there and I can certainly say that the teachers there are under a lot more pressure than they would be in an average school. As you said, Susan, most of the teachers have been there for quite a while, so I’m assuming they just got used to it. Killian Oaks is a completely different environment from any other school I’ve been to before, and that is saying something. That goes for the learning environment and the teaching environment. As someone who has been there, I would urge parents and students looking to enroll to do their research and be sure that KOA is the right school. It’s ideal for some types of students, but certainly not for all. The teachers overall are very understanding and supportive of the students and they’re more than happy to give one on one assistance, but the materials they teach come from books that would be considered remedial in most public and private schools. Yes, you can request honors books, but those are usually just the average level books elsewhere. KOA was a valuable learning experience for me, but I cannot deny that I felt restricted in some ways while enrolled.
I found Killian Oaks Academy five years ago while searching for a school for my daughter. My daughter is highly gifted and needed a school that could challenge her academically but also help with her executive functioning skills. Her psychologist recommended Killian Oaks and I called the school to schedule a tour. The directors immediately made us feel welcome, and I enrolled my daughter in the middle of the school year. We found a place where she is both challenged and supported, a claim many schools make but few can actually deliver on. I feel that Killian Oaks Academy is helping to create a lifelong learner in my daughter.
