What we like:
– We’ve had a variety of teachers at KL, and have particularly loved Ms. Carol, Ms. Annie, Ms. Kate, Ms. Jennifer, and Ms. Daisy as homeroom teachers. They are organized, communicative, interactive, and my child also loves these teachers. I have no concerns about the education provided.
– The school recently implemented the ability for parents to pick up the child via individualized pins at the first set of double doors and a fingerprint system at the third door before the classrooms. This is a huge time saver compared to the previous system of standing outside and waving at someone, then indefinitely waiting.
– There has been unusually high turnover in directors. The previous directors have been difficult to work with, but the current director, Ms. Shuangye, has been all we’ve wanted. She gets the job done, and for us, the luxury of having the school days be business as usual with no surprise is all we need.
– We’ve met a great parent community that we’ll maintain relationships with long after our child moves on to the next stage in his education.
– Mandarin immersion is a great bonus.
– 2 meals a day + snack provided, but also pack extra snack for those staying for an extended day.
– Facilities are clean.
Areas for improvement:
– While the departures of the previous directors were for the better, we hope that management can retain the current director.
– Starting Sep 2023 the school has early dismissal planned for the 3rd Friday of every month for staff development. Parents are not informed of what developmental sessions take place, but this is highly inconvenient for working parents without nannies. It seems that management has decided to pass the burden of investment in their people to the parents, which is disappointing.
– Extended care enrichment programs have changed from 2022-2023 to 2023-2024 (third party provides for the full week previously to inhouse providers for half the week now) and would suggest there has been either budget slashes, lack of planning, or both.
