How many times have you heard or said the phrase, “Every kid is different?” I have three kids, and I find myself saying it almost every day, because my 5 year old is a manic wrecking ball who communes with nature from sun up to sun down, my 2 year old is a super-social little princess with a knack for making great poop jokes, and, so far, my 7-month-old is a pretty chill dude who’s just here for the party (though, he seems to really love music). But do you know where I’m going to send ALL OF THEM TO PRESCHOOL? This place. Because the teachers here KNOW THIS. They are *not* trying to shove your hexagonal-shaped child into the square hole of their pedagogy/worldview. They observe the kids and help them become the absolute best versions of themselves. They meet my son where he is, help him where he struggles. Honestly, when I think about how great this school is, I want to cry, because we almost didn’t find it. We were enrolled somewhere else, where they brought in ponies for the back to school night (ooo fancy!) and had big screens in the classrooms (oooo fancy!), but no one could tell me who my kids teacher was going to be yet. In my gut, I knew it was not the right place for us (or anyone??). At the 11th hour, I started googling preschools again and by some miracle we found this place. Don’t be scared off by the parent participation piece; I promise, that’s the best part. It’s not too much of a commitment; it’s just right. Even if you need to fill in childcare gaps elsewhere, make time for LPPP. Youll be a better parent because of it; your relationship with your kid will be stronger because of it; and some day, youll be sitting around at a community event and find yourself talking to some parents slightly further along on this journey than you are, and you’ll discover that they, too, sent their kids to LPPP, and youll both get a little teary just thinking about what an amazing place it was for your kids and how lucky you were to find it.
We trust LPPP with our heart and that goes a great distance to show how awesome the teachers there are. Our shy child is who had little to no interaction with those outside immediate family is now going around making friends and talking to random strangers. Just the other day he stopped a man who was walking his dog, said Good Morning and asked the puppys name. That is far more than I had imagined would happen in a short few months.
The teachers truly love the school, the children, and Rocky. Who is Rocky, you ask
He is a 40year old tortoise who lives in the backyard. He is also an important aspect of the school and in my opinion is a great teacher of the empathy and boundaries. And dont dress the kids up in clothes you would hate to see dirty, they find so many ways to have fun, it is crazy.
Everything about LPPP has made me more community oriented. We arrived in Orange County with almost no connections. But now we have so many parents and teachers ask us where we were, when we were gone for a few weeks. OC feels like home now.
Most parents know most of the kids by name because we have in-class jobs, where we get to work with kids who are in the same class as our precious ones. We work as teaching assistants, I guess, under the guidance and support of teachers.
If you want a sneak peak, there are Parent and Me classes in Fall and Spring.
I wish I had pics, but there is a good reason I dont, we are not to take photos once inside the school when there are kids, Teacher Jackie and Team try their best and protect your childrens privacy. If you request privacy, I know theyll try their best to honor it.
