The museum and information here was great, super interactive, and even my anti-museum teen brother was able to find something interesting to learn about. The park rangers were super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, while inside my bicycle was stolen right off of my car rack by local kids! It was caught on security camera, but not with enough detail to identify them. Purely by luck and because of the amazing park ranger was my bike recovered a couple hours later, but the fact that it was stolen, even for a time, put a damper on my overall experience at this historic site. If not for that, this would have been a five star site.
Aside from the historical significance of this place in the Civil Rights movement; the part of this historical site that caught my attention was this historic Mobil Service Station. The station was a gathering place for the media people where they could use the public pay phone to call their stories into their media outlets.
However, as a former Marketing Representative of Mobil I was amazed at the attention to detail the renovators put into this magnificent station. It brought back many fond memories of this era in my life.
I definitely think this place is a must stop if you are in Little Rock. It is a big part of US History, big things happened here. I think it’s very cool that the outside of the school as well as the rest was so well maintained and that there is a museum here. The structure of the school itself is massive when you actually walk up to it. You don’t realize how many steps there are until you are looking up the stairs. It was a good experience to come by here.
