The principles and teachers of this school severely need a lesson in how to treat students and parents. I went there in eighth grade and was punished in the form of lunch detention twice once for hand holding with another female student and another for borrowing a jacket from a friend due to me not having the money for an LLT approved jacket. Yes it was no mystery that the school had a strict no PDA policy but no guidelines where given to the students or my guess even the teachers as to how to deal with PDA or what it was. This lack of guidelines, common sense, and sensitivity training on the staff”s end was the reason why the only two out LGBT girls in school got detention for holding hands. To say this school is run by homophobic individuals would be much to assuming however I can attest that their lack of understanding in this matter did do damage to both me and my friend. Her parents found out and she was punished by them as well and I thank my lucky stars that my parent is understanding enough to not have put me through any more hardship over holding a girls hand, and accepting a jacket. The teachers also have a reputation for performing badly some relying on the Internet completely for their lesson plans and some not even being qualified to teach that grade”s subject, and I don’t recall ever seeing a counselor for the school. Do keep in mind I haven’t attended this school in years but to my knowledge from people who still go there there are few improvements. If you are considering sending a child to this school be prepared with deep pockets and a tremendous amount of understanding for your child because they will not receive it at LLT academy.
I’m only giving them a star because I have to and I will say the curriculum is amazing. HOWEVER!!!! The middle school staff (principal) are very bias and does not have ALL of the children’s best interest and is not a good advocate for our children to say the least. She is VERY unfair and deceptive with her “authority” she does not treat all students equally. I was on a call with her with my child in her office and my son told her what the other student did to him and what the other student said after doing it and she tried to say that my child did not tell her that….I WAS ON THE CALL and heard him and I pointed it out to her and she told me she would call me back once she gets more details. SO HOW IS IT SHE DIDN’T HEAR HIM SAY THAT?!?! BUT OKAY, then Mrs. Logan had the nerve to tell me she would disconnect the call because I was talking loudly after being told that I and my child was basically a liar. All in all this school is HORRIBLE. Not to mention they violated my daughter for having on khaki bottoms from Old Navy vs Reds Sport Team..SMH!!!! BE AWARE 🙁
I don’t have a problem with the school itself, but I don’t have a child that goes there either. My problem is with the parents that drop off & pick up their kids then use my PRIVATE DRIVEWAY off of 74th St. which is 52nd Ave. My driveway is like a little alley that the parents think it’s a place where they can turn around to go the other way & I wouldn’t have that big of problem with parents doing that if they didn’t spin out to get back onto Madison, throw their garbage out window, etc. I don’t know why, but for some odd reason the school only lets the parents pull out of the school in one direction & considering they have a traffic person that stops traffic & directs them I’m completely flabbergasted as to why parents can’t go the other way as well. Either something needs to be done where the parents can go in both directions or they need to be instructed to use public street to turn around to go the other way.
