McGehee has been an amazing place for our daughter and our entire family. From an academic standpoint, the school is beyond spectacular. In the lower school grades, the girls learn everything from engineering to women’s history to basic algebra to writing in cursive and much, much more. Our daughter was able to have extraordinary academic experiences that broaden her mind in ways beyond our wildest dreams. The girls read basic Shakespeare plays in second grade and performed scenes from the Bard’s great works which gave our daughter a great love of literature and acting. In third grade the girls designed products to sell in a market place and studied the basic rules of economics. In fourth grade the girls studied world history through French class and gave full presentations on other countries and their cultures in French. The academics are simply outstanding. But what makes McGehee so special is the way the school is truly a community. Everyone at McGehee is part of the McGehee family. The school fosters an environment where the girls confidently support one another in all endeavors. Our daughter not only wants to succeed in academics, athletics, etc. herself, but she also wants her classmates to do the best they can and she does everything she can to help her classmates. That is the spirit, the community, McGehee fosters. It is a spirit of excellence, not only for one’s self, but excellence for the entire McGehee family. We could not be happier than we are at McGehee.
The first day I stepped in to McGehee’s LIttle Gate with my 3 year old daughter I knew it was a special place. It was like magic really. We met warm, understanding and well educated teachers, friendly and open parents and enjoyed an absolutely lovely campus. Although my daughter did not attend lower and middle school at McGehee, we were delighted for her to return to McGehee for high school where we found absolutely the same atmosphere. McGehee’s Upper School mixes challenging expectations for high order thinking skills, leadership and independence with kindness, respect and a nurturing caring environment. The teachers are experienced, well educated and devoted to my daughter’s education and her character. The administration is responsive and concerned. I love the strong, educated, independent and kind woman that my daughter is becoming with the help of this amazing school.
