It is in the community best interest for this school to either have a change in leadership or close down entirely. My daughters classes were dysfunctional and unorganized every year that she was there. In her class, she had 30+ peers to 1 teacher. The teachers often did not have help. I watched her subs dangle kids from there wrist and scream at the other kids in a desperate attempt to regain control. I immediately left with my child and went to CPS across the street to report my concerns which seems to have fallen on death ears. Even more disgusting, was while we were at CPS speaking to the lady about the issues; I noticed my daughter had a bedbug crawling on her coat!

I’ve raised multiple complaints about my child being touched by other boys on the butt. It seems nothing was ever resolved because it kept happening.

Once, my child came home and told me that a boy hit her on the butt at gym. She told me her gym teacher advised her to “hit him back”. I had a conference with all the teachers to find that one of the two gym teachers truely did advise my children to “hit him back”. She also defended her response saying that my child just said she was hit and did not mention where. My response was that it was inappropriate for a teacher to tell a child to hit another child. Her response was “well they gon do it anyway”.

My daughter was constantly bullied and often depressed. It was to the point where I put her in therapy. Everyday she begged me to keep her home.

When I transferred my child I learned that she way behind in her education. Her new teacher at her new school did awesome with catching her back up in a matter of 3 mos.

Every child at Beethoven fought, cussed, and was disrespectful. Majority of the teachers had more kids then help, screamed for control, and just was not humanly capable nor prepared to deal with this particular community of kids.

I support most of the teachers with the exception of a few and I pray for the kids. It’s not their fault and they should not have to endure what they are enduring. At this rate, these kids will never be prepared. The higher ups don’t care and it is just heartbreaking.

I only gave them one star because it is required to leave a review. As a relative of several CPS instructors, I believe in the CPS school system but Beethoven is one of the worst schools on the South Side. There is absolutely no structure whatsoever and whoever is making decisions for the children who go there, obviously either doesn’t have any children or doesn’t have the children best interest at heart. The kids have to stand outside in the cold because staff members are not on the clock until 8:30, they have a policy where parents can’t enter the building but there isn’t enough security to enforce this rule, the principal and assistant principal is under the impression that they are too important to talk to you in a formal meeting and it’s a laundry list of other inconsistencies that have occurred. My son’s kindergarten teacher Ms. Perry isn’t qualified to teach his classroom, she literally sits there like a mute. She has no control of her classroom nor does she put forth effort to try to gain control of a situation. She allows the children to do whatever they want to do, instead of being firm, taking the initiative to show the children that she’s the adult and they are the children. I really wanted to give this school a chance but I can no longer tolerate the unprofessionalism that occurs here daily. I’m looking forward to transferring my son to another school and I sincerely hope they will get better for those children that continue to attend this school.
This year has been the worst my daughter in kindergarten and jan walsh is her teacher all she does is complain and call the parent and let the kids fight each other then call security on five year olds and she goes around telling other people about your child you don’t even know and they act like all the parents are criminal they keep you out of the school and have to many strict rules
