My 7 year old son and I had been interested in violin for over a year before we found Mr. Greg. I used some self-teaching books and sorted through our different options for lessons. After our first lesson with Mr. Greg I had no doubt this was where we needed to be. We left our lesson inspired and ready to get down to work. My son told me he thought the violin would change his life!
Mr. Greg meets you where you are at–whether you are struggling to remember to loosen the hair on the bow and put your rosin away or wanting to learn an instrument as an adult. He sees where you are going and gently guides you toward the goal, while also providing accountability and expecting you to succeed. You can tell him where you stand without shame and receive acceptance and practical help. In 2-3 months Mr. Greg has already taught me about patience and kindness, and that is worth as much as learning the instrument itself.
Mr. Childress is very engaging, knowledgeable, patient and encouraging to both students and parents. He meets families where they are, on an individual student by student basis, and cultivates both the love of learning/playing music and of the violin. My son (12) continues to flourish and grow not only in his playing/reading ability, but in his knowledge and understanding of the violin itself. Mr. Childress also keeps students informed of a variety of playing and learning opportunities within the Lynchburg strings community. He has a very positive and encouraging style of teaching. He is passionate about what he does and it shows! He has an excellent way of balancing accountability and fun so students want to stay engaged. He is skilled in teaching a variety of age and ability levels. Mr. Childress has been a wonderful addition to our “music family” and we would highly recommend him!
