As a parent of students who go here, I can honestly say this school is amazing at first. But then I slowly but surely started seeing how this school truly is. 1. The front office ladies are horrible. When on the phone or in the office, they have such an attitude and seem like they are unhappy and miserable with their jobs. I went in to the office to fill out papers and was not greeted, they did not look or acknowledge me, I waited atleast 5 minutes before they even said anything to me. There was no one else in the office at that time when I came in. A student came in right before I was going to leave and the office ladies did not acknowledge the student. 2. My son had a bully and I went to the principal she said she was going to look into it. She said there was no student by that name and left it at that. Then a couple of months later my son came home from school with bruises on his back. Come to find out my son was taken into the bathroom with the same bully I had an issue with a couple months before and the kid beat my son with a belt. The assistant principal told me she forgot to call me and tell me about this incident and I did not need to go to the principal about this issue. I really liked this school up until the school did nothing about bullying. I can say this though, the teachers here my kids have had are amazing. I have good reviews about them. I mostly have a problem with the staff that work in the front office.
As a father that loves his daughter, I’m ashamed of this school. Policy here is that mom has %100 control over the child’s education. I’ve been scolded for picking my daughter up early (during my placement), never allowed to be an emergency contact (mom’s new boyfriend was though!) and have even been barred from watching my daughter graduate. (Mom gets all tickets and decides who can get them)
When confronted about the lack of concern for father’s rights/ ability to be part of child’s education, Principal Corona takes the defensive stance and interrupts to tell you that it’s someone else’s fault. I guess when you’re a principal at an MPS school, you don’t have to take ownership over any of your policies…..just point at someone else.
My memories of my daughter’s time at MacDowell will be empty, but not because I didn’t care for my daughter or try to be part of her education. Rather it is because I had a child with a spiteful woman that has done everything she can to erode our relationship and it was aided by this school. PLEASE do not send your child to this school if you are a father that still has some rights to his relationship. MacDowell will show you how little those rights actually mean.
