As parents it’s very difficult to see your child struggle in school, which is why we are so happy that we found Marburn Academy for our daughter.

During her first two weeks of third grade, she realized Marburn is the right place for her. Through the year, she began to show progress in areas we had not seen before and she gained back her confidence. She was no longer dreading going to school and could not wait for Mondays.

In addition to the Orton Gillingham instruction, Marburn gives the students so many opportunities to get past their fears and struggles. Marburn’s teachers are able to break down both reading and math in a manner where everyone can learn. They also give students the tools they need to stay focused and succeed.

With each week we saw progress. For us, we started seeing how comfortable she was being at school. Then we saw her attempting to do math and it eventually led to her attempting to read signs, labels, mail and other everyday items. Finally, she began raising her hand in class and became an active participant.

Each time she puts herself out there and attempts to do math or read we consider that a huge achievement.

We also saw her try new things beyond the classroom. She had lines in the school play and has requested more for the next school year. She also learned how to ride a bike during PE class and was able to participate in the lower school bike ride. In her words the bike field trip was, “Awesome!”

We know we still have a long road ahead of us. However, it’s the right road and it’s here in Central Ohio. We are so fortunate to have this school in our area. No other school can give our daughter this type of education.

Hands down enrolling her in Marburn was the best decision we made.

Marburn Academy has been a lifesaver not only for our daughter but for our family as well. For years my daughter has struggled with reading comprehension due to her hearing loss and we struggled with finding the help she needed to succeed and feel confident. From the moment we began the process of applying, my daughter was happy and had hope, hope that she could learn differently but also exactly how she needed to learn. She transitioned seamlessly for her 4th grade year and made new friends. She also found teachers who guided her in the Orton Gillingham method. She found confidence in reading, she found confidence in deciphering sounds and most importantly she found friends who were just like her. Home life changed as well, no more fighting to do homework, some days she even looked forward to it. I love that when she discovers a new way to learn a concept she teaches us! While the school year did not end as we had hoped, I can say that Marburn did an incredible job of engaging the kids and setting schedules so they could stay on top of what they were learning. For anyone who is a parent and you are at your wit’s end on how to find help for your child to succeed, I encourage you to consider Marburn and see for yourself what we have experienced with our own child.
