Best highschool ever! The principal is just the most sweetest woman ever and tries hard to make the students happy and educated. This school has very strong education and the students are so welcoming! I’m so excited to stay in this school and I’ll know this school will help me achieve my goal in life!
Im am so surprised after reading some of the reviews below.
I myself went to Mercy and it was a school I have always regarded very highly. I have a daughter here and she started in year 7 and is doing year 12. I did initially look at other schools at the time but I came back to Mercy. Princpal and the staff have been amazing in my daughters education and the support and care we have received. I cant speak more highly of Princpal Lila McInerney, she has gone over and beyond to help us with everything from my daughters welfare and education.
I guess you cant make everyone happy, but I would definitely recommend this school and they really do care about each and every student in there.
I attended Mercy College for all of my high school experience and graduated in the recent class of 2022.

I found my experience there subpar to what I would or should have expected considering what my parents were paying each year. If I could give this school negative stars I would. From the principal, or the closely associated communist rules we endured and the welfare treatment we received; or absolute lack thereof.

Mercy college did not sustain it’s mantra of justice, hospitality or excellence.

The teachers that I had were fantastic. I was lucky enough to receive the very few that cared for me and acknowledged my needs as a teenager, let alone a human being.

However, the principal and her entourage, were and I assume are still, the root of all problems for this school.
Their dictatorship clearly neglected us as humans and simply listed us as numbers based on our uniform conduct, performance and behaviour. When in reality what we need and expected from this high school is education, support, friendship and opportunities.

Furthermore, during assembly periods the principal would undergo a patronising monologue about how she ‘cares’ about our mental health. This act was to simply fulfil her conscience and essentially tick a box that she has demonstrated that she remotely cares for us.

If this were really a concern she wouldn’t have taken away the one peace in all the insanity- our well-being room. This room provided us with a piece of mind, from colouring in books to beanbags, our minds were at ease. Yet this was taken away from us and given to a condescending, termagant of a woman who is considered a ‘well-being support teacher’. A personal anecdote of mine is when I needed to go home because I was having a mental breakdown, when I told her I was having my mom pick me up I received a 15minute lecture about how this violated the school rule and was questioned about how I contacted my mother. Is that really what I needed when I was in hysterics about my private life?

Ultimately, my friends, my family and I would not recommend you sending your daughter to this dungeon if you have any empathy for them whatsoever.

PS- if you remove this I will repost it

Mercy College is proud to share that a number of our teachers have been listed in the News Corps ‘Australia’s Best Teacher’ Campaign.

Mercy College, Coburg
This Victorian school received a host of nominations from students eager for their deserving teachers to be celebrated. English teacher Bernadine Callery was a popular entrant with students noting, “her anecdotes and explanations are never boring and her criticism is always constructive”, and “she helped me get my first A in the subject and shared my love of true crime”. Other standouts include Madeline Carnibella, who is “funny but strict” and Lila McInerney, who one student wrote “has made a huge influence in my education”. Other notable nominees include Kay Toll, Annie Driver, Maria Carinci and Elizabeth Moore.

they removed my original review. i will write a new one.

i am a graduating year 12 at this school and i know i speak for many when i say this school has failed us. all they care about is their public image, about the scores you get so that they can push themselves further up the ladder. the teachers here are horrible except for a small few, and MANY of them are leaving this year.

the school doesn’t care remotely about the students here, and it is shown in everything they do.

a prime example is how they completely sabotaged one of the only resources they had in place for student wellbeing. not even just for mentally ill students, but also for those that weren’t doing well and needed a break. in 2019 my class advocated for this wellbeing room- a safe place that students could go to when we needed time alone. a previously empty office would soon become this wellbeing room, and i know i am not alone when i say that this room gave me and others a perfect quiet place to calm down when we needed time to ourselves. for me it was a safe haven for panic attacks and trauma responses- i could calm down with the space i needed to do so, without teachers interrogating me while i cried.

this year, they decided to replace the wellbeing room. they took the frames off the walls, removed the stress toys from the tables, took the beanbags from the corners, took our colouring books from their holders.
they replaced it with an office. an office for the head of wellbeing- a less than charming woman who cares more about uniform than any student’s wellbeing. i’ve heard rants from many of my peers about her lacklustre abilities in actually aiding anyone’s health.

now students have nowhere to go- but its good that she got her office right? now girls can go to the bathroom to cry, in dirty cubicles with disgusting overflowing sanitary bins.

and this is only one thing they did. another pleasant example of mercy college’s loving catering is forcing a girl to remove her crucifix and dump it in a plastic bag filled with many other pieces of student jewellery, all lumped together. (this was during the covid crisis, by the way). the teacher saw her begin to cry and simply left. its important to note that students are allowed to wear religious jewellery- it is the one exception to the rule.

in short, this school is horrid. don’t send your daughter here unless you want to watch the life be sucked out of her. take her literally anywhere else, please.
