GREAT High School – Of the (3) three, of which my (3) three children (eldest son, daughter, and now youngest son) have /are attended/attending, MERVO is Definitely the BEST CITY high school of them all for Education, Teachers-Help,Interest,Reach-Out,Updates, Etc…, Administration (Great Asst. Principals, like Ms. Schultz) ,I can’t really comment to the principal, Mr. Rivers,as I have yet to meet him; however, have received the auto-calls from him with school related updates, MERVO school website seems to be setup Great in such a way that you can see upcoming events, calendar, access PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER “Portal” to KNOW how your child is doing, SEE what work is due and expected from each class, receive work if out, SEE Attendance, ETC… Teachers also REACH OUT & Call/Text&/Or Email parent if child out sick to send work to be made up.
ALTHOUGH it may not be a COUNTY high school, and may not have the “HIGH RANKING” Of WESTERN H.S. (All Girl) or POLY (Baltimore Polytechnic Institute), you don’t have the FIGHTS Publicly Displayed for All via Facebook and/or News, or TOTAL lack of respect for other students /teachers/administration as have been displayed, already this year at other various high schools, Both City and COUNTY! !
Being a Western Grad myself, I Do question Some of what has been instituted or integrated into the current school curriculum, both from previous middle school curriculum to that of high school, and wonder how certain pieces of history, for example, can be changed from that of what was taught when I was in school (HOW CAN HISTORY, WHAT HAD HAPPENED, BE CHANGED AFTER THE FACT? ?) BUT, Otherwise, I Must say, with ALL of the Opportunities that MERVO provides, from the Educational standpoint, Extracurricular – Football, Cheerleading, Tennis, Band, Track, ETC… MERVO REMAINS A GREAT CHOICE to make as long as you have the gp to be accepted. I am sure they have probably have some students that are out to cause problems also; however, there will always be at least that (1) one, in every place, that either was not brought up to honor and respect, or just doesn’t give a **** & causes problems so if you have a child that WANTS to get an education and possibly the opportunity to succeed in other activities also, MERVO IS, the RIGHT CHOICE!
This announcement from William Penn HighSchool pretty much sums up why I feel as though this school deserves one star.

Statement regarding September 8th WPHS Football Game

At approximately 4:55 pm, at the conclusion of today’s football game between William Penn(WP) HS and Mergenthaler VoTech HS (Baltimore City, MD) at Bill Cole Stadium, the visiting team confronted two William Penn fans which caused a disturbance.

Mergenthaler was winning the game by a score of 14 – 7, and towards the end of the fourth quarter, Mergenthaler players began taunting WP players. Their head coach was also ejected from the game in the last minute for entering the field of play and yelling at the officials. At the conclusion of play, WP players were directed by WP Head Coach Matt Sabol, to go to the end zone on the opposite side of the field, away from the opposing players.

As the Mergenthaler players & coaches exited the field, they were overheard using obscenities and inappropriate gestures towards WP fans and spectators exiting the stadium. Two William Penn students exiting the game, were immediately confronted by a few members of the opposing team. Suddenly, more Mergenthaler football players engaged in confrontation with the two William Penn students.

No William Penn players were involved in the incident, which lasted about 5 minutes.

The school’s administration, district constables, and William Penn fans were able to extract the WP students from the incident, but tensions remained high and police were called for additional support. With additional police support the scene was calmed as the Mergenthaler team left in their buses.

The Colonial School District would like to commend the WP Football coaching staff and players for their sportsmanship in this tense situation. The Colonial School District would also like to recognize the WP administrative team and constables for their efforts to maintain safety and security for all those in attendance at the game. The Colonial School District also appreciates the spectators and fans who chose not to engage in the incident but help diffuse it.

Horrible senior week, we went to the after prom in taxi’s that we had to flag down. There was no senior trip, it was cancelled and never rescheduled. The senior picnic was at a park that was nearby. Every location that the school planned for the seniors was not where we went (prom, ride to after prom, senior picnic, senior class trip, etc.) We were very disappointed. How sad…
