The teachers and administrators are dedicated and do a wonderful job in their mission; educate and foster emotional growth for the challenging and under-served population of gifted children. Giftedness is ‘asynchronous development’ in which advanced cognitive abilities and heightened intensity combine to create inner experiences and awareness that are qualitatively different from the norm. This asynchrony increases with higher intellectual capacity. The uniqueness of the gifted renders them particularly vulnerable and requires modifications in parenting, teaching, and counseling in order for them to develop optimally. (The Columbus Group 1991) If your child fits the aforementioned description and you live in the CLT area; Scholars Academy is likely already on your list of schools to check out! If you dont make it in the first time, keep applying!
The school is very nice. The classes are fun and the teachers teach the lesson material very well. There is a reasonable amount of homework given. The school offers variety of classes like art, Chinese, music, Spanish, health, and PE. In middle school, you get to choose Chinese or Spanish to learn intensively as well as band, strings, or choir. There are also lots of fun events year round. The school is very advanced so they classes are very ahead which is a good thing. Right now, you are skipping a grade in this school (curriculum wise). Overall, this school is fantastic!
