When I first came to the Midcoast School of Music, I was a young, and unhealthy fourth grader who had just received a liver transplant. I had been taking piano lessons since I was in the first grade, and by the fourth grade, my interest in music was virtually non-existent. The first time I met Matthew Fogg, the two of us immediately hit if off. Matt was kind, empathetic, friendly, and passionate. He not only became a teacher, but a friend. I became even closer with Matt and many of the other teachers at the school as I continued to do more and more that involved the school. By doing the ensembles that were offered, I not only gained experience and musicianship, but friends whom I still play with to this day. I continued to study the piano with Matt for the next three years. At this point, my musical passions had begun to wane yet again. At the beginning of 2013, I began to study the bass guitar. Because of this, I met a new friend and teacher: Duane Edwards. Since then, I have become a very successful and talented bassist, and have done more with music than I ever imagined. This switch brought music to the front of my life. The Midcoast School of Music opened so many doors for me, and has undeniably shaped me into the musician I am today.
If anyone is looking to have their child learn music, this is the place!! What I love about the teaching practices of the school is the students have the opportunity of apply what they learn in their lessons to real life situations. The music ensembles enable my daughter to take what she learns in piano lessons and play with other students in a full band setting. Its really cool.

As for the instructors they are some of the best in their fields. From singing lessons, drums, piano, horns, guitar, strings, they have it all. They are full of energy and really care about how my daughter is progressing in her abilities. This energy and excitement about music filters to my daughter. It used to be a challenge to have her practice and go to her lessons. Since we found this school all those issues have disappeared.

I cant say enough about this school. Try it out for yourselves. I should mention that it is not just for kids. I was sitting in the waiting room with a retired man who was just starting to learn the piano.. So weather your young, middle aged or retired, they have something for everyone.

Our children have taken both Piano and Guitar lessons at MSOM, and we are thrilled with our experience. The lessons are energetic and focused on the kids. The teachers are very talented, and they bring a love of music/teaching that fosters a great learning environment . Our children get to pick the songs they want to learn, and their teachers support them enthusiastically. There is a sense of community at MSOM as the pupils all seem to be enjoying their experiences. While we have not yet participated, the school offers ensemble programs that seem to be a great way for like minded kids to team together and get an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of an audience. All around, a very positive experience.
