Like most that live in Modesto, I come from a long line of Modesto High graduates. Unfortunately the administrative staff has taken a turn for the worst. Starting with counselors and going straight up to their principal. My brother who is a senior this year (class of 2013) was diagnosed with cancer his sophomore year and had to have major surgery to remove the tumor from his BRAIN. Because of this he fell behind and was not able to pass his classes. EVEN THOUGH WE REQUESTED HIS WORK. Teachers did not send it all and failed him. His Junior year was rough on him as he tried to take his core classes and still make up Sophomore classes. This year, as a senior, he has taken 100 credits total and has over 60 credits extra to graduate with. BUT, there was one semester of English he still has to make up and is enrolled in summer school. I understand you need all four years of English to walk the stage, but from my understanding and what I have seen at the high school from when I was there, students like him have a deal worked out and get to walk the stage. Now, like I said he has taken 100 credits and has never been in trouble with the school. He was involved in sports and even has a job. The Modesto High staff, did not notify my mother or my brother until today, two days before graduation, that he will not be walking the stage. Which is completely unfair as they told him last week he was going to walk and just not get his diploma until after summer school. If you ask me, this is unfair and they should have taken it upon themselves to notify the family and the student that he would not be able to participate in something every student and teacher in the school agrees he earned. The professionalism of this school is atrocious and for the first time ever I am ashamed to be a Mo-High graduate. I intend to spread the word about this. For a kid that has worked so hard and had his hopes up high for something so wonderful to be just yanked from him is awful. It’s a disgrace to the Mo-High family. Thanks a lot, Mr. Manning, Guerrero and Gonzales.
I was only there for a year and a bit but that school is the best home I could have ever asked for. With loving teachers, fun staff, caring students, and amazing programs, this is one of the most amazing schools. I wish I hadn’t moved and could stay with the place I love.
