I would give this school zero stars if I could. My daughter was slapped by her male classmate Monday morning and Monterey seems to think its no big deal.

She picked up his pencil off the floor..he said it was his.. She said she found it and he slapped her. I was not called or notified and have had little to no luck contacting the vice prinxial who handles discipline.

She did call and leave me a voicemail saying “it appears she was slapped” and went on to say that since they couldn’t get a full story from either child they are going to treat it as a “teaching lesson” about what could’ve been done differently. She also went on to say she didn’t have any marks on her face as if that’s any consolation of her being hit. My child told me the story without an issue and has stuck to that story the several times she’s been asked.

My issue us number 1 I wasn’t contacted by the school at all.. My daughter had to tell me when she got out of school.

Number 2 the other student has had no disciplinary action taken for putting his hands on my child. Lastly.. He was still seated RIGHT NEXT to my child the very same day, they didn’t even see fit to separate him from my child. I had to call the next day and request that her seat be moved.

This is frustrating and angering I have little to no faith in this school or their administrators when it comes to the safety of my child. Had she slapped him back and defended herself as she was taught… I’m sure shed be in trouble. I have left 2 msgs with the principal since this happened Monday and have yet to speak to her in person or on the phone. I will be homeschooling my daughter for the rest of this year.

***EDITED TO ADD***
The student who slapped my daughter later attempted to spit on her and his mother requested to have his classes moved.

This same school year a couple girls were telling other students they were going to bring weapons to school to kill her when no one was looking. A friend of my daughter heard about this and warned her, I made a huge deal with the school who suspended one of the girls for A DAY. She was supposed to write an apology letter but we never received it. It was completely unacceptable to my husband and I as parents to not have this addressed more sternly. With kids being killed in schools all around our country more often than not we thought there would be a stricter response. No such luck at this school. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE. CHOICE THEM OUT TO A BETTER DISTRICT.

I had been in Monterey since 2nd Grade….I had the time of my life….but the end of 5th Grade was a tragic…. I miss everyone SOOO much…I LOVE YOU MONTEREY….I think about you everyday…but I’m doing good in 6th Grade ..Thanks to the help of Monterey!!
This is the best school in the neighborhood. Went to Centennial Elementary School for years while the kids were younger. Moved the kids to this school and wish I would have done it years ago. Awesome school!! Amazing teachers!!!
