Well, I can’t say enough great things about New Beginnings, Really, I can’t! I moved to this area in 2011 and immediately began shopping around for a salon. I wanted a stylist that was as good as the one I left behind when I moved. I could go in to her with several photos and I Always walked out with Exactly what I wanted. I tried most of the salons in Harrison. One of the salons I went to the stylist didn’t even finish my cut because she was racing the stylist next to her to get to the customer that had just walked in. Another salon I went to cut maybe an eighth of an inch off my hair and wanted 20 plus dollars for the non hair cut. These stories go on and on. I mean IS there any work ethic among the salons in Harrison? In 2016 I walked into New Beginnings and needed a cute cut in a hurry. I saw a poster on the wall and told them that was the cut I wanted. Did I get that cut exactly? No, but it was closer to being exact than ANY of the more expensive salons I had gone to in the last 5 years. (And technically my hair wasn’t long enough to get that exact cut) So after that when I needed a cut I would go back to New Beginnings. Then for some stupid reason I started salon shopping again with the same results as before. But did I learn my lesson? No, I didn’t. I decided I needed a perm a couple months ago (2019) and called around to find a salon that would do it. I spoke to a stylist at one of the more ‘Trendy’ salons in town and she told me how much experience she had with perms, bah, blah, blah. I (stupidly) booked with her for a body wave and she FRIED my hair with a kinky perm. I was in tears when I left and immediately went to New Beginnings for advice. They were Shocked, when I told them which salon I had gone to, and gave me all kinds of advice on how to fix the problem. I followed their advice to help relax the curl somewhat and then went in to them a few days later to cut the frizz off my already short hair. This helped, and then about a month later I went back in for another cut to my very short hair to take more frizz off. Do you know at that cut we could still smell the perm solution the ‘Trendy” salon had used on my hair? (That’s because she didn’t neutralize it properly) She also didn’t check my perm at all after she put the solution on. She got her freakin cell phone out and sat down across the room and waited for 30 minutes. Anyway, I just have to say that in all the years I have lived here, and with all the other salons I have visited, New Beginnings has done a better job on Every single cut I’ve gotten than any of the other salons in Harrison and that includes the more “upscale” salons. I recommend New Beginnings to Everyone.
Up front – I’m a 55 year old guy – so take this review in that light.
I don’t get the reviews here. It’s a SCHOOL. Do they always give me the cut I want? – No. Does it bother me when they don’t? No – it’s a School.
However they do a good job for me 9 out of 10 times and I have been going here for years.
If you want a consistently professional hair cut then go to a salon. If you want a radical cut then go to a salon.
If you want to get a decent hair cut and give students a chance to do an actual hair cut rather than on a wig then this is the place for you.
I have found most of the students to be friendly and they try their best to do a good job.
