What a beautiful school. I transferred my child from another local school to Nicholson St Public recently and was so overwhelmed by the beautiful playground, empowering culture and fun and caring teachers. We were thrilled as we had never experienced such a unique environment like that before. Everyone is made to feel very welcome. Every morning the kids have quick stand up assemblies led by the year 6 leadership team and any child may make an announcement as well. The kids are encouraged to be responsible and thoughtful to others and to get involved in teams and groups where they can learn how to create and manage the regular school newsletter, or manage a sports team or participate in debating and fundraising teams. They really want the kids to be confident little humans who are respected for their ideas and questions. For a parent, the culture is incredible as kids are engaged, reassured and supported to build confidence. Most of all they are happy. Staff go out of their way to address any challenges and make every effort to ensure that your child’s learning needs are being met. The playground is big and has just been re-developed and the kids can run, play soccer and basketball and let off lots of steam ready for the next class after a good lunch break. In the wet weather there is a gorgeous outdoor area so they are not trapped indoors all day. There are separate play areas as well. Overall, I found that the kids are learning in a fun environment without excessive rules for the sake of rules. The Principal is phenomenal – a very caring and understanding leader who fundamentally understands that kids need to be kids too while they learn. Gorgeous school. It’s Balmain’s best kept secret. Miles ahead!
Used to go there pretty bad to small and should have upgraded the play ground earlier and the after school care is terrible but still decent
