Our son started attending NTLA mid-way through kindergarten, as he was excelling faster than his peers in public school, and we were quite happy the first year and a half. There were typical organization issues which were apparent in delivery of time sensitive information and deadlines. We were willing to overlook these things as our son seemed to show signs of growth and happiness. However, due to management and teacher pitfalls this has changed.
One week before 2nd grade started, we were informed that our son would have a new teacher. When we paid our tuition, we were assured our son would have the same teacher. We voiced our concerns and now feel we have allowed enough time to gauge our child’s performance. We have met with management several times on this subject as we felt our son’s educational and emotional needs were not being adequately met. There have been no changes in managerial or teaching approach as a result of these meetings.
Furthermore, we started to notice his behavior and attitude began to change over the current school year. Upon further investigation, we found this was due to persistent verbal abuse from his peers, which was met with further disciplinary action from his teachers due to his “involvement” in these situations. Unwillingness of the management and teachers to appropriately address these situations has ultimately culminated in an unhealthy atmosphere for our son. We had high hopes for that NTLA would be able to give our son the unique project based learning atmosphere he needs to thrive, but the atmosphere and managerial oversight has made our experience fall very short.
We LOVE this school! I have watched my son blossom from a shy and hesitant child to an active participant in his classroom. I especially love that he has Spanish class every day. At four years old, he already knows more Spanish than I do!
