I went to this school for 3 years. I started out liking it, and made a lot of good friends and met new people. Then second year, it started to show through. For students, I feel that there is a massive communication gap, and my parents even mentioned how they don’t know about important events that they feel they should know about. There is a high teacher turnover rate. We went through 6 math teachers and 5 design thinking teachers within the span of one school year (during my third and final year). There aren’t enough kids there in my opinion, having about 1000 from 5th – 12th, only about 100 per grade level. There’s a lot of problems with bullying, unfair treatment, and lots of fights, and usually the bullying and threats don’t get solved. I’ve witnessed it too many times. I also don’t like how it’s all 5th through 12th on the same campus. Which, the campus is small to begin with. Maybe half the size of a normal high school. Some classes don’t even have rooms, and are forced to learn in the “multi-purpose room”, which also gets very cramped, since it’s used as the “legacy lounge” for highschoolers, the cafeteria, the gym, auditorium, expo presentation room, club area, and a few more things. Too many uses for it to be just divided by grey folding dividers. Classes are too often interrupted by the other uses. Not to mention that most of the people there aren’t nice as they might be portrayed. Most of the students suck. Some are not bad, but most are toxic, and they don’t have any care for anyone but themselves. Not the school’s fault, but beware, the environment can be very negative, and take a bad toll on your mental health. Don’t be fooled. There’s a lot of (bad) drama every day. (for other students/future students, keep out of the drama. It does you no good in the long run.) This school is also STEM and technology focused. Not as many classes to choose from as an average highschool. If you want a normal highschool experience, go somewhere else. This school doesn’t even have lockers or a library. It completely re-constructs the image and atmosphere of highschool as you know it, and creates something else entirely. Looking back, it’s not at all what I thought it was when I joined. Not saying I don’t regret going, because I don’t, and I’m glad I made that change three years ago, but now, I realize it’s not for me. I don’t learn well in that environment, and for that, I’m leaving. If you think it’s for you, go for it. It may be, and it may help you and it may be right for you. But I’m just sharing my experience, and I hope it may help someone else one day.
It’s an okay school. I definitely feel like some of the Coaches (teachers) can be incredibly biased. One thing that I went through that I think was a bad decision was an homeroom change when there was only 4 weeks left of the school year. Basically we all have “Homerooms” which is a class with a group of 20-24 kids in it. When there was about 4 weeks left of school in the 6th grade (for me at least), they changed up almost every kids class and put them with different, people, schedules, etc. It was a hard time because I got moved away from all my friends and believe me or not who I’m with in my class does affect my learning skills and my ability to focus in class. Overall I think it’s a decent school but it could use some improvement. I really hope they don’t do the homeroom change for 7th grade (my grade this year), or any other grade.
