I attended this school in 1998 – 99 for my freshman year of high school. It was the single worst academic experience of my life. I wasn’t the best kid by any means but I didn’t deserve the treatment I received from the faculty. On more than one occasion teachers lied about my actions to my parents and intentionally misconstrued events to place me in detention and ISS.
There was one occasion where I stayed after Bible class to speak with the teacher about something. Because of this I was late to English but that shouldn’t have mattered because the Bible teacher gave me a hall pass. When I arrived at the English classroom, the teacher there (who was married to the Bible teacher) gave me a hard time about being late. After I was seated she forced me to go back to the door and walk back to my desk again “this time without the attitude”. We repeated this three times, each time with me moving more deliberately in hopes of not getting into trouble. The teacher pulled me out of the classroom and we went to her husband’s office where she called my mother to say that I was acting out in class and was getting detention for the day.
Before they had a bus they had a van they used to pick up kids. The driver of the van was Ms. Colleen. She hated me for reasons I will never understand. There was one time she waited in the hallway for me after class. Her hands were clasped together under her chin and she had a huge grin on her face. She was so excited to tell me that I had detention and wouldn’t be going straight home. I went to the office to ask what was going on. They confirmed I didn’t have detention and I could go home. By that time she had already pulled out of the parking lot and I had to call my parents for a ride. This happened another time when I was already in the van waiting to go home and she said she wasn’t going anywhere until I went to the office to verify I didn’t have detention. She turnout. She drove off and I had to call my parents for a ride again. One of those times she actually took the other kids in the van to dairy queen.
This might be my favorite story though. A girl who’s mother was a teacher at the school told me an incredibly racist joke that I didn’t appreciate. I reported the incident to a teacher, I believe it was Mr. Kadow. Some time after that the girl was forced to apologize to me. I told her that I didn’t accept her apology. The girl later came back to me with another teacher and I was told that I had to forgive her or I would get detention for unchristian behavior. So fine, I say I forgive her, even though I didn’t mean it, and everything is fine. Later that day I’m handed a detention slip for unchristian like behavior. The girl who told that very racist joke? Nothing.
Bottom line is this. Don’t force your kids to attend this school. It’s been years since I attended and I doubt any of that faculty is still around, but please don’t risk your children’s well-being by sending them to this hell hole.
My daughter was about 5 or 6 when she began displaying issues with learning at her public school. Her grade in math at that time was around a 12! It was obvious she needed help, but the counselor and teachers at her former public school were not willing to help her. They wanted me to medicate her, as if that were going to take care of her learning issues. Every morning she would cry because she had to go to school. It was obvious to her and I that they did not like her. I decided to put her in Northeast Christian Academy because I figured we both had nothing to lose, and I had heard of their ability to help her, and the classroom sizes are much smaller which meant more one on one for my daughter.
My daughter is now 11 and I am happy to say that she has blossomed at NECA. It took her about a month or so for her to adjust. Not only did they help her with her learning issues, they also have worked on her behavioral problems. This school is literally a God send. I highly recommend it.
