I would like to leave a review of this school because I have apparently lost the battle in letting it go and turning the other check. I applied for my son to go to this school and then was given a meeting to discuss everything. We went to the meeting and there were two principals or deans there asking us questions. They ask about our involvement in church and other basic questions. I told them that we weren’t involved in church very much but were interested in attending. Part of the reason that I wanted my son to go to this school was the requirement for the family to be part of the child’s life in school. This also would appear to me to create an environment where we would be part of a church and would overall improve the family as a whole. Anyways, they kept saying how they weren’t hearing enough of the word “church” or “Jesus” in our responses. It seemed that because of our lack of church involvement, we didn’t fit their standards. They also said their school was geared on a “college based” learning environment and the fact that my son was on a 504, he would be in a situation where he wouldn’t be able to keep up and would be left behind. This was two years ago but I do remember their website mentioning how they have teachers that specialize in special education. I was so disgusted with their pretentious behavior. I quickly sent a letter the day after the interview basically informing them that I don’t want my son to be a part of an organization that conducts themselves in a manner like they did. Three days after I sent the letter, I received their version of a rejection letter. I can’t find the letter but it mentioned Jesus and how they hope for the best for us. I guess this is the beauty of being a private entity, but wow can you imagine Jesus wanting to be included in a rejection letter for a school being taught in his name. My conspiracy version of what happened is: we weren’t part of a long standing Enid clique or I wasn’t wearing a flight suit. I’m from Enid and only left for 10 years while on active duty in the USAF. I guess my son will never be a part of their esoteric curriculum that appears to be ordained by Jesus himself. So in conclusion, if you’re not part of the clique or you don’t own a flight suit, it may be a good idea to pass on the whole process and maybe try homeschooling.
Oklahoma Bible Academy is the best kept secret in Northwest Oklahoma. I attended OBA from 1988-1993 and made lifelong friends and most importantly, developed strong foundations in my walk with Christ that have definitely shaped me into the man I am today. OBA has a challenging curriculum that was so good that college was, frankly, eas for me. The college prepatory exams there continue to bear these results with 100% of students taking the ACT with an average score last year of 24.4 across the entire spectrum, well above the state average if 19.1. From teachers that took the extra time to help me understand complex problems, to coaches that understand that sports aren’t really about sports at all, but rather teaching boys to be men, that nothing worth having is easy or free, to administration that cared enough for me to not let me go down the wrong path; Christian education is so important to my wife and me, that when it was for our oldest daughter to go to school, we picked up our life and small business, sold our house in Stillwater and moved to Enid so they can experience the same incredible Christ-centered education that we did in our formative years. I cannot recommend OBA and their amazing Christ-centered approach to education enough. Go out and meet with them and prepare to be amazed when you truly discover this hidden gem.
