I have two daughter’s at Thorp one is in fourth grade and my little is in second grade Special Needs class, as parent I came in with high expectations and this school has exceeded my expectations. There is a high demand of students wanting to come to Thorp, that says a lot about this school. It is great seen the teachers, community, diversity and leadership that is been provided by the principals. I truly believe this, if you have great teachers/Theripist, you have great students, if you have great students, you have a great school, that’s what Thorp is all about! I also want to give a thanks to all the faculty that makes sure that my little one is been directed to where she needs to go in the morning, with the same token I also want to give my appreciation to the entire faculty that works the aftercare program until 6:00 pm in the evening insuring that all children are safe, and that also makes sure that my younger daughter is staying occupied and out of harms way. I know I’m leaving my daughters in an atmosphere where they feel happy/safe and ready to learn! I love this school!! I truly appreciate everything that is been done by all staff of Thorp O.
This school is nothing short of amazing. It is everything a parent would want for their child in a big city like Chicago. It is a community, and a family that my kids have been lucky enough to be a part of. I will never be able to give back what the staff and educators have given to my family. My 2nd child is there now and my teenager attended K-8. She goes back to visit any time she can and if she isnt with me, her teachers, principal and support staff ask me about her every time im there. The principal and educators constantly look for new ways to engage the kids to nurture their love of learning. They are open to feedback from the parents and are truly invested in the school and the students well being. The parents of Thorp students are equally dedicated to making the school better every year. I challenge anyone to show me a more loyal and supportive group of parents than Thorp parents. No school is perfect, but a good school acknowledges imperfection and commits to continuous improvement. That is Thorp.
This is my second year at Thorp. My 4th daughter was excepted in kindergarten last year, and this year we were fortunate enough to get my seventh grader and a fifth grader in. I know many families who have always spoken highly of Thorp and was really excited when I received the news that my children were accepted. So far, I love the atmosphere at the school, and my older girls have both thanked me for transferring them there. They love the teachers, they feel challenged, and they often say how friendly the children are at Thorp. The transition to a new school was easy for them since the children and staff have made them feel welcome since day one. And one last note, they transferred from a spotlight school in the west town neighborhood of Chicago. It was a great school, yet, in their opinion, Thorp seems to be of even higher quality. I believe we have made the best choice and I highly recommend it.
