My husband and I are both teachers in other districts with more than 50 years between the two of us. Our child is now a 5th grader at OES. As with any school or organization, you will find people who are “better-suited” for your child than others, but we’ve found that the diversity at Ostmann is good and there are teachers for every child’s learning needs! Mr Jennings is a very caring man and is personally involved in the school, the activities and the education of the kids. He students know and love him. He is kind, fair and fun and adheres to school policy without being adversarial.
The school offers a multitude of extra curricular activities and kids of all ages and abilities can find things to do and enjoy.
The PTO is strong and the Ostmann community, staff, teachers, admin, students and parents, are all involved in creating a positive learning atmosphere to the best of their abilities.
Sometimes issues crop up, as in any school, but they are dealt with quickly and professionally, as far as we can tell!
New military family to the district coming from Francis Howell SD and I must admit the enrollment process has not been the easiest or pleasant. We were forced to go through hurdles and hoops just to register our 5th grader. It was mandated that we prove our residency in a thousand ways which I found to be ridiculous and highly offensive. Once “meet the teacher night came,” and we arrived to meet our child’s teacher Ms. Weiss, she was very rude, disconnected and showed absolutely no regard. I did bring this to the principles attention at the end of the meet and greet. Mr. Jennings seemed to be very receptive so we have high hopes that she was addressed for some serious coaching and training.
I grew up here. Great school.
