I have had two children at OLM. My daughter was a victim of ongoing bullying and inappropriate touching from another student. We brought the incidents to the attention of the school. Each time we heard Kids will be kids or we will resolve the situation with the utmost privacy and discretion. I asked for the school policy on several situations and never received it. I reached out to the principal on four separate emails and several calls. At each contact she said it was under investigation and that she would return my call. It has been almost 6 weeks since the incident in question. There has been no return calls or emails from principal. All of my requests for school policy have been ignored. As a parent I am mad and frustrated with the leadership from the school and I really question there ability to offer a positive and safe environment for my children. Clearly it appears that fund raising and tuition are more important than the welfare of the students. Please be aware before considering OLM for your children.
I didn’t have the greatest experience when I was a student at OLM. I attended OLM from 1998-2006. Obviously being a Catholic school, students are taught to be disciplined and respectful, all with the teachings of the Bible. Like all children from grades 1-8, I was also bullied. Teachers gave time out to the bully, but they would mostly scold the victim for not standing up to the bully. Then, if there were still issues, the victim can notify the school principal, which usually worked. When I was at this school, the principal was Mrs. Fife. She was a fantastic principal and handled issues with care. I think the school went downhill after she left.
If you choose to bring your child here and he/she needs extra help, know that there are resource and counseling centers. There are also a handful of extra-curricular activities from sports, choir, altar server, school government, and more.
