Pennsauken Intermediate School may seem unnecessary, since all grads from Pennsauken will tell you they attended one of Pennsauken’s Elementary School’s (based on what section of Pennsauken they resided in at that time) from K-5th grade, then they went to Howard M. Phifer Middle School from 6th grade to 8th grade, and to Pennsauken High School or transferred to a local Private, Catholic or other special school from 9th grade until 12th grade graduation!

Now, because of the boom in population of more children and teenagers, Pennsauken Intermediate School was required to be built in order to hold the over-flow of 5th and 6th graders, meaning that now Pennsauken students only spend 7th and 8th grade in Middle School, therefore technically attending 4 schools throughout their educational career rather than the standard 3 schools.

Sure, many parents are against this. I was very against it because MY time spent in Middle School for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade was very important for my maturation process, as well as my learning process. And honestly, those 3 years spent in Middle School were the best 3 years I had in my educational career prior to college. But, I changed my mind once I had kids. I have 2 kids (who are just 1 year apart) whose time it became eventually to attend Pennsauken Intermediate School. The first time I went on a parents tour of the school, I wad VERY impressed on how state of the art the building is! They offer so many things and technologies that our Middle School didn’t have way back when. I was hesitant until I saw and heard my children coming home everyday telling me the things they were doing, seeing, learning and I immediately became a fan of the Intermediate School! My kids are learning SO much there, and they’re motivated by a positive, patient, caring staff who don’t give up on kids and who don’t rest until all of the students are working to the best of their ability, achieving the best grades possible! Last year, we had a woman principal who bombed and took the school down, but now that lessons have been learned, the school is safer. She wasn’t in charge at all while she worked there, and the Board of Ed forced her out for her lack of ability to do her job. The kids got out of control while she was there, because she was a weak leader, and her priorities were all wrong, but now she is gone and everything is back to the way it is supposed to be. And something that I LOVE about the school is how serious they are about our children’s safety. Strangers can NOT wander in and enter the building. I know that my kids are safe.

This is a fantastic school! If you disagree because you didn’t have to attend an intermediary school, take a private tour with the principal, ask all the questions you want, and you will see how awesome it truly is. They are very serious about discipline, so your child must follow every rule and even being tardy can get children detentions because they are trying to instill into the kids how important being on time is.
