I was so happy for my son 6th grade year. He excelled at many things. 7th grade came around, admin (Mr. Acosta left) changed and it hasnt been the best fit for him. I am transferring him for his 8th grade year b/c I no longer want to deal with going up there constantly like I have this year. (My son has always maintained above 3.0gpa, and well liked by many) I love that the school has the IB program but at this point my son is not happy and I am not happy. Some of his teachers are amazing, some are lackluster, meaning they cannot control the class and some pick on the students. The only time they even reach out is when its negative, nothing ever positive. So hopefully during the summer break, they come together to gain better communication practices and more control for this upcoming school year. So for that, i dropped my star count from 4 to 2.
This school has a nice Athletic Program, After School activities and even extra classes, ex; Band, Orchestra, Theatre Arts, etc. . But the one flaw in this school are the administration and teaching staff. The administration or so called “Assistant Principals” do not know what to do, if they see a problem they just throw a suspension at it and hope it works. The Principal rarely comes to the school, so that means the Assistant Principals run the school, but not necessarily, each grade level has an Assistant Principal, ie; 6th, 7th, 8th. So say a 6th grader fights another 6th grader, well if the 6th grade principal isn’t in the mood, they just send the 7th or 8th grade principal to resolve the problem. I could keep ranting about the situation but I’ll just warn you: DON’T GO TO HERNANDEZ!
