As a former student- this is not a place I would support. Once you enter the “senior level” teachers have no interest in helping you with basically anything because “you should know by now.” For example, I was doing a balayage on a client who was not processing and bleach had been on her hair for 45 minutes. I went to get advice from an educator and I asked if they would come check. The teacher said “well have you put her under heat” and didn’t bother to come check and continued to just sit in their office. I explained that she’s been under heat and I can’t get her past a level 8. Without bothering to look, they said “ well idk, add more bleach on it and let it sit” so that I did as this was my educator and my clients hair went from silky smooth to fried because bleach was left on too long and over processed. I assisted at a salon before I started school and if it wasn’t for that + my friends and I watching videos and doing education on our own time there is no way I would feel comfortable practicing on actual clients. I am usually not someone to write a review but I am genuinely disappointed by the education I received from this “school.” Teachers and staff treat you like an object and even if you have a scheduled lunch time you will still get services scheduled over it and sometimes not be able to take a lunch until 3pm even though the teachers lunches are prioritized. We would get attitude if we interrupted their lunch with any type of school related question. We get it, in this field sometimes lunch doesn’t happen but as students we are required by law to get a lunch and 2 breaks which are not completely honored. We pay over $20k in the full course (hair, esthetics, & nails) to get treated like elementary schoolers when we are all grown adults and most of us have children ourselves. Also- teachers are not required to do any additional outside education so what we are taught is very, very outdated.
Fist time getting my haircut here, Karlie did an incredible job, the guidance from their instructor was super helpful in the end result! Throughout the process they were asking me for my feedback and my input before moving forward with the next step. Extremely friendly! Now I’m just waiting for the color with Jordyn, I’m super excited, and snuck me into the schedule last minute so I would be ready for Albany pride ???????? on that note also an extremely inclusive and queer friendly environment!
My grandma makes appointments for the stylist who knows how to do her hair but hasn’t gotten them the past 4 times with no forewarning.
What’s worse was how my grandma was treated upon realizing she wouldn’t get her stylist again today. The desk attendant was extremely rude. I’m not one to write reviews, but she made my grandma cry!
Not worth the cheap haircut.
