I have mixed feelings about the school. Some teachers should not be working there, and other surprise me by going well above and beyond any expectations I had. There were some changes with the front office staff, so I may not be in the best position any more to evaluate them.

The classes are diverse, and I feel they really push to get the children to go above and beyond(the majority of teachers at least)

As the non-primary parent in a separation I kept running into walls when I requested information. Unfortunately I had to write a letter outlining the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). Once I wrote this letter I started receiving information about my daughter. It bothers me that it had to go this route, but it worked. If you have issues such as the ones I had I would recommend looking into FERPA.

The main thing is;
Section 99.4: Sec. 99.4 What are the rights of parents? “An educational agency or institution shall give full rights under the Act to either parent unless the agency or institution has been provided with evidence that there is a court order, state Statute, or legally binding document relating to such matters as divorce, separation, or custody, that specifically revokes these rights.”

And the reason they will jump;
(1)(A) No funds shall be made available under any applicable program to any educational agency or institution which has a policy of denying, or which effectively prevents, the parents of students who are or have been in attendance at a school of such agency or at such institution, as the case may be, the right to inspect and review the education records of their children.

I wish I would have known about it sooner, I wouldn’t feel as though I was cut out of the first two years of my daughters education. After the letter I was “known” to the staff, but the information was forth coming and the staff was respectful.

Unfriendly in a nutshell.
Not inclusive.
Does not welcome new students.
Does not treat students fairly, not equally.
Do not recommend.
Does not fit in with all of the remarkable and excellent schools in the county.

Great school went here through kindergarten all the way to 5th grade all I have to say is the staff.. and Philippi has changed a lot through the years.
