This school gets a bad rep ultimately because it’s in Piqua, but I’ve been to a huge variety of schools and this was pretty abundantly the best one. The teachers, for the most part (few exceptions, like the ones who sit back and watch a kid get bullied while other students stand up for the kid, while they continue to sit back and watch), are really committed and good at their jobs. They take into account the different learning styles of different students and incorporate many different methods to their teaching styles. The sports programs have lots of potential, giving students who struggle with their grades multiple chances at playing and even offering them help. As far as the student body, it’s kind of amazing how much diversity there is and how everyone of all stereotypes manages to get along. You do have those regular cafeteria fights, but the principals and teachers handle it very well. You can have the leader of the mean girls clique sitting with the Goth anime dude who fantasizes about My Little Pony, or Young Thuggin hanging out with Snooty Sarah after school and everybody totally gets along. Bullying happens everywhere, but it’s really not bad here at all. For the most part literally everybody gets along. You have the slower paced classes to help the students who don’t learn as fast, as well as the AP and honor classes for those who need more of a challenge, as well as giving the students the freedom to choose their own level of learning. Students are given the opportunity to double on classes and graduate a semester or even a year early, and go into a program where they come into school early or leave school early. Definitely proud to be Piqua alumni! And happy to see Messick as principal!
I graduated an entire year early because that place was a living hell. Of course I had some amazing life saving teachers; for example Mrs. Allen , Mr. Riley, Mr. Burns, Mrs. Phipps, and Mr. Lions. But so many teachers not only watch kids bully kids but they also aid in the bullies attemps to make things worse. Yeah there are a lot of classes but not enough to actually show children real life things that matter. The advanced classes had outdated material. There is much needed work to be done.
Honestly in piqua between having the choice of playing sports and attending either the jvs or the high school you have a good chance to make a career path or college path
