This is the first year that my child is going to this school.
The entire first week of school was “getting to know each other”. Heck, my child could’ve done this at a day care!
From what I have experienced, the school’s teachers don’t teach the necessary things normally learned at the appropriate grade levels. They don’t teach the students how to show math when working out math problems, they want them to “draw pictures”. Not just for representation, but pictures, to show their work. It was ridiculous. I may as well just homeschool my child, because I have to pretty much reteach the entire class worth of material when they get home anyway. Have I kept in contact with the teacher? Yes, and all I received in return was excuses about how they don’t have to go above & beyond because it’s not within the standard of “Common Core Math” & that they only have to teach the minimal. I received no resolution for my concerns about my child’s education, & my solutions were dismissed.
The school is very very VERY INFLEXIBLE to accommodate the child’s needs.
Remember when you were a kid & you could go home on the bus with a friend if your parents wrote a note for you? Well, I don’t know what screwed up things have happened with schools in this day & age, but apparently that’s not allowed at this school. Have never had a problem with it at any other school.
This school, it’s lack of care for student education (although it supposedly is rated top 10 in the state), is disgusting & I will not be recommending such a superficially fake school to anyone.
I have a sp child and a dreamer (adhd) who have had good and bad experiences with the last two schools they attended. I can say that Prairie View has gone above and beyond to help my children stay on track with development as well as excel in learning. They never had a bad day the whole year. Hands down the best school for special needs children who need enthusiastic and attentive teachers and staff members. I am also impressed by their security set up. I don’t have to worry so much about my children being away from me. Hopefully this pandemic will pass so they can enjoy time with their school mates and teachers again soon.
