Don’t let the low cost and immediate availability fool you into selecting the Sauk Rapids center. The incompetence of the staff is incomprehensible and it’s unclear to me why this place is even licensed. The director doesn’t have a clue and I’m not sure that the “teacher” for our children had any background in actual education. We only lasted a month here and had to remove our children as the staff was unbearable. They called everyday for an entire month with simple complaints and concerns that every childcare provider should be accustomed to. For instance, I was told that my child had to wear socks to school and not sandles because they simply couldn’t brush the sand off his feet after outside playtime on their playground. Really?!?! Also, apparently they weren’t trained to help a child actually pull up a pair of training underwear because they refused to do that too. I’m not sure if it’s sheer laziness, incompetence, lack of actual training and education, or all of these. And their “aftercare program”?? More like the children there are more of an afterthought to the staff who is just collecting a paycheck. As it turns out, a previous childcare agency withdrew from this place as the staff was deemed untrainable and they refused to cooperate. We discussed all of the shortcomings to an actual ECFE director and they were flabbergasted. Don’t waste your time here. If you do wish to try it, don’t say you weren’t warned.
Our little guy started kindergarten at Prince of Peace last fall. What an amazing school! We were really impressed with the family-like atmosphere when we first sat down with Mrs. Gray and Barb to talk about the possiblity of sending our kiddo there. We continued to see that family style atmosphere throughout the whole year from the principal greeting us at the door, higher-grade kids stopping and holding doors open, to a lunch room where if they want more strawberrys they can! I drive away every day knowing our little guy is in a safe comfortable environment where he can thrive both educationally and spiritually!! Their saxon math program is really cool, it builds from lesson to lesson so they don’t just learn it and forget it. Also their reading program is cool as well, half way through the year they start bringing little books home to read to their parents. So cool to have your kindergartener reading stories to you. If you been thinking about going with a privite school I encourage you to check them out. We have met many parents who are non lutherans too, so its a great school for more than just the lutheran denomination.
My daughter is currently attending her 2nd year of preschool. The education and environment is outstanding. Compared to other kids her age I feel she is more well behaved and self reliant. Compared to other schools around here I feel she gets more attention from her teachers and staff. I would recommend Prince of Peace to anyone who is looking for a faith based education.
