Today a fight broke out after school, there was a crowd of about 20 kids. I saw two boys punching each other while the other kids stood around recording. An employee from the family dollar came out and tried to urge the children to stop fighting. There were several other shoppers including myself calling police and trying to get the crowd to disperse. A good intentioned female staff member from Propel came out and tried her best to control the situation, but was only making matters worse. She was holding onto one of the boys while the other kid kept reaching over her swinging. The boys kept pushing her away and telling her to ‘get off of me.’ There were too many kids and none of them were listening to her as she told them to stop fighting before someone calls police. I can tell the staff of Propel cares about their students and seemed to not want to get them in trouble by getting police involved but the situation was already out of control. She put herself and the kids at risk letting the situation continue to escalate. Someone could have been seriously hurt and thank GOD there were no weapons involved. Propel needs to train their staff on when to stop their efforts and get police involved.
As a senior, I can definitely say the school has improved dramatically over the years I’ve been here. Everyone, including staff, strives to make this place better. Lunch is now free for everyone, the amount of community service hours needed for graduation is only 100 hours instead of 160, and we now have athletics! Not to mention the teachers here are great. While it isn’t perfect, there is no question about it: Propel BHHS continues to change for the better.
You can make so many good friends but on the other side you can meet so many bullies that will hurt your feelings but intentionally they don’t really mean to it’s just I would insist going to that school if your kids dealing with bullying
