Don’t send your child here. They are not preparing these children for the state tests. They barely receive enough instruction in the classroom to adequately complete homework assignments. My son was thriving at PS 326 and is struggling at PS 119. I’ve worked with an after school program for over 5 years. I always noticed that the students in the 3rd and 4th grades always have a math workbook for their homework assignments, where they are asked to complete at least a whole page of work because repetition reinforces what they learn in class. My son comes home with TWO math questions each night in his notebook. If I did not buy a workbook for him to do extra work he wouldn’t know the basics. He’s being tutored by a retired 4th grade teacher in writing now in hopes that it will equip him with the tools he needs to pass the state tests next month. You can check the school’s standardized testing records for yourself – all below average. I will not send my youngest to PS 119. Once my youngest is done with PS 326 I will have to look for another school for grades 3-5. I don’t want him to have the same hardships my oldest is experiencing now.
If you don’t care about academics and just want nice teachers and a good music program, then by all means send your child here. Their shows are always entertaining.
This school is awesome. I love that the school encourages children to be kind to others. It has all of these really good extra activities, like Rock Asylum after school, and these fun trips, nacho cheese, Penny harvest, expo, Burgon Beach, Peace day, The thriller dance, and more. She the school certainly isn’t boring at all. The learning is very fun. I encourage every kindergarten to 5th grade student to go. I love this school. I’m in Middle school now. I miss it already!
