What Changes Have Taken Place. I am now 95 yrs old. Started PS188 when I was 5 in kindergarten and graduated out at the end of 8th grade. Went on to PS 97 on Mangin Street and then on to Seward Park where I graduated Jan 1936. My #1 son started
PS188 in Kindergarden in 1951 and we moved to Brighton Bch 1n 1952. I now live in
Florida where I have been since 1973. So much water has run under the bridge over the
years. And I remember all of it My beautiful wife of almost 69 years who is a Williamsburg girl and I still share memories of the early years.
My favorite teacher at 188 was a little hunchback lady by the name of Miss Wein.
The poem she taught us was “I had a little pony, it’s name was Dapple Grey” etc.
Of all the teachers I have had, I always will remember her. A selfless, dedicated woman who loved her job and the students she had.
Oh well, life goes on…….
If you visit the school in person, you would probably hear a lot of screaming and yelling on the main floor. One reason is because the GYM is on the main floor and there are no walls to separate the GYM from the other parts of the main floor. The GYM is in an open space. It’s an odd set-up. There are more reasons why this school may give a bad impression, but i’d rather not say. Let’s just say that I can’t send my child there; its too loud, the kids are too rowdy, and the behavior of so many kids is just too difficult. However, I know some of the staff there, and the staff is always working to provide a safe and respectable school. They work hard all the time.
