I only give this school a 1 out of 5 stars because I attend to this school (won’t say my name for privacy purposes). My experience here has been horrible. They have zoom meetings for the online students and they say that either you can attend to the meetings that the teacher has scheduled, or you can email a teacher for a personal meeting. These meetings are for helping with any subjects, having a teacher log you into a unit test, so on so forth. Now here is where things start to go South. I have tried to make a personal appointment because the schedule that the teachers have are either later in the day or it is during the weekend (which I have a busy life, so I couldn’t do that option). So I emailed my teacher of said subject and try to get a meeting. They didn’t respond until a day or 2 after. So the teachers aren’t exactly reliable. So I tried my counselor and she has been very reliable. I feel bad for relying on her so much for unit tests, but I know that she can get it done. Then there is the grading aspect. I don’t feel as though putting zeroes after said quarter for every assignment until it is done is a good way to see your grades. Even though many of my classes are A’s and B’s it says that they are a 43% or something like that. And overall, I feel that this school doesn’t have structure to it. It feels as though it was a hodge podge of online/in person school.
The district seem to have no accountability for the remote teachers. I chose to keep my children remote because of the pandemic and students not wearing masks properly at school. I have a middle schooler who has her normal teachers that she would have if she attended in person and we have no issues. My elementary school child on the other hand, nothing but issues with remote teachers. I received a call from her school one day that she would be returning to in person when I did not agree to that. I later found out that it was because she had failing grades in all of her classes. Never once did her teacher reach out to me to tell me that. When my child was with her actual teacher doing remote learning, the assignments were done differently so I had no way to know. When I brought up the issue to the head of remote learning I was told that it was my fault and that I should be checking grades. No acknowledgement that the remote teacher should contact parents if the student is failing. I was also told that because I had an issue with another remote teacher that it just seems that I am dissatisfied. This makes it seem like as a parent I am wrong for reaching out when there are issues. Reaching the district is another hassle entirely. I can never get an answer no matter what option I select in the directory and getting a call returned is rare.
