My son just graduated kindergarten. He only went to this school for about 5 months. I did not like the way no announcements were sent out, if there was one it was every so often. The teacher did not inform the parents of everyday activities. The school my son went to in galt prior to this one was great. The teacher let parents know daily what was going on. She let us know how his day was when we picked him up and when I asked how his day was and what did he learn he always said ” oh I learned this and that and I also learned a new song”. And they had homework each week. They also went to the library each week to pick out a book. At this school I ask what he learned today and he says ” oh I forgot”. And they are on tablets and computers all day. I dont mind the no homework policy but at some point I would like to see my child writing and reading things at home. And a progress report every few months would be nice also. Just some suggestion maybe a monthly calendar just for their class with activities and special moments on it every month, maybe some writing assignments to be sent home and the library once a week or even once a month would be nice. Maybe teaching the kids responsibility will be nice too.
Rancho Cordova Elementary School has a soft spot in my heart because not only is it the school I grew up at, but my children attended as well. It’s perhaps not the most fancy of schools, but it has good heart. I found the teachers to be quite competent, and very helpful and understanding. My eldest has ADD, and he was provided with much support, and his teacher got along with him very well, and seemed to understand how to interact with him. It feels safe and homey, it’s playgrounds for the younger grades are nice, though the upper grades could have a nicer playground. Lunches are automatically free without the hassle of forms and red tape which helps out of course with the pocket book.
If I have really good memories of this school 9 years after graduation, then surely they were and still are doing something right.
